TREMONTON, Utah — A Tremonton family is recovering after a crash with a big rig truck in the middle of a stormy commute. Authorities are searching for a vehicle they say left the scene of that bad crash after cutting off the McFarland family.
The family was on their way to a barrel race in Southern Utah on Friday, horses in a trailer in tow.
Riley McFarland remains in the ICU with shattered and broken ribs. His wife, Marie, said his injuries were quite serious.
“They had to fix the ribs so he wouldn’t get pneumonia because he wasn’t able to breathe,” she said to KSL TV. “They weren’t sure how they were going to do that.”
Marie is recovering from a concussion and a broken foot. Two daughters and one of their boyfriends were unharmed. All the horses survived as well as pet dogs along for the ride.
She said good friends are stepping up to help in the Tremonton family’s time of need.
“I think it’s so wonderful that people can be so kind and generous,” Marie said.
