Unified Police respond to shooting in Kearns, 1 in critical condition

KEARNS — Police were investigating a shooting in Kearns Saturday evening that left a victim in critical condition.
Sgt. Amy Race with the Unified Police Department said the shooting took place in the area of 6000 South Cougar Lane just before 8 p.m. She said the street was closed in both directions during the investigation just after 9 p.m.
Police received reports that a person had been shot and was under a vehicle. That person was aided on scene and then taken to a nearby hospital.
Race said there was a large gathering in the area, and police were interviewing people there.
Information about the shooter was not immediately released. Race said in addition to UPD, the West Jordan Police Department, the Salt Lake County Metro Gang Unit and violent crimes detectives were responding.
Race asked the public to avoid the area, as it would be an active crime scene for some time.
