Woods Cross announces resignation chief of police

WOODS CROSS, Utah — Officials with Wood Cross City announced Friday that Chief Chad Soffe resigned from his position with the police department on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

No explanation was given by the city on why Soffe decided to resign. However, the city did confirm to KSL in August that Soffe had been placed on administrative leave. His leave took effect July 27. 

“We thank Chief Soffe for his service to Woods Cross City and his many years in public safety,” city administrator Bryce Haderlie said in a news release.

In the release from the city, Mayor Ryan Westergard appointed Scott Buchanan to serve as the
interim chief of police for the Woods Cross Police Department on July 27. Buchanan has 26 years of law enforcement experience.

Most recently, Buchanan retired as the deputy chief of police for West Valley City in 2022.

“I appreciate Interim Chief Buchanan’s willingness to accept this assignment,” Haderlie said in the news release. “His experience has allowed him to quickly step into this critical role and lead our police department as they continue to serve our community with pride and distinction. We are grateful to him and all of the
members of the Woods Cross Police Department for the exemplary service they provide to our community every day.”
