Clearfield Falcons welcome incoming sophomores on first day

CLEARFIELD, Utah — The Tooele and Davis School Districts are welcoming students back to the classroom today. More than 70,000 students will return to Utah’s second-largest district in Davis County.

Clearfield High School Principal Chris Keime said giving incoming sophomores a good first impression is crucial. 

“We try to balance fun with ‘let’s get right in,'” he said. “Let’s get in classes, let’s meet teachers, let’s meet classmates.”

Similarly, he said they’re they are making sure their new sophomores start high school off on the right foot.

We want them to go home tonight and talk about the great day they had, the new people they met, and that they were recognized, noticed, and welcomed.” 

Student Body President Xander McBride said Clearfield’s school pride helps them stand out from the rest.

“You can ask any other school, we really are known for our school spirit,” he said. “You know even though we might be losing, we end up being still so loud, cheering the loudest, and ultimately everyone is friends here.”

McBride said he’s excited to greet all the 750 incoming sophomores.

“It’s really exciting just to have kids come here and just see the excitement they have interacting with new students and finding the rhythm of what we do,” he said. 

The new sophomores had an orientation two weeks ago. They are back in the classroom this morning and get a welcome assembly tomorrow.
