Leadership change announced at Utah State University

LOGAN, Utah — A leadership change was announced Monday at Utah State University.

The university says that Dr. James Morales is leaving his role as the university vice president. His departure is effective immediately. Morales was named vice president of student services at USU in June 2009. He had served in that position since then.

However, USU President Noelle Cockett has decided that it was time for a change in the leadership of the Division of Student Affairs. Cockett acknowledges and is grateful for Morales’ commitment to the university.

“President Cockett appreciates Dr. Morales’ hard work over the last 13 years in addressing critical issues in student affairs, including his leadership in student development and community engagement. The university wishes him the best in his future endeavors,” a statement from a university news release read.

Executive Vice President Robert Wagner will be assisting student affairs during the leadership transition.

According to the news release, Cockett will be with staff in student affairs and other stakeholders over the next few weeks to begin the search for a new vice president. 

According to the news release, the Division of Student Affairs serves a key role in accomplishing the university’s mission. It provides students with a variety of programs and services.
