SARATOGA SPRINGS — Alpine School District officials broke ground on a new high school in Saratoga Springs Friday. Officials expect it to become one of the largest schools in the state.
Where will the new high school in Saratoga Springs be?
The new school will be on the west side of Mountain View Corridor, close to the Saratoga Springs Temple. Alpine School District Communications Director Rich Stowell says the area has needed another high school for a while.
“Currently, Westlake High School might be the largest school in the state by enrollment, ” Stowell said “Cedar Valley is close behind it. They are both north of 3,000 students.”
How big will the new high school be?
Stowell says the high school will hold 2,000 to 3,000 students, but since the area is growing so rapidly, they haven’t drawn boundaries for the school yet. He says they decided to start building now, as construction costs are rising and they wanted to minimize as many inflation costs as possible.
Stowell says they hope the school will be a gathering place for the community.
“Any time a school goes in in a community, it really becomes part of that community and one of the cultural spaces in that community,” he said.
Stowell says the new school will be similar in size to Westlake High School.
The new school is set to open in 2028.
