Amendment D lawsuit hearing date set for Wednesday, September 11

SALT LAKE CITY — A lawsuit seeking to void the language of Amendment D and remove it from the state ballot has gotten an initial hearing set for this Wednesday.
The recent controversy around Amendment D stems from what opponents claim is a misleading description on the ballot. The proposed amendment would bring changes to ballot initiatives, giving the state legislature more say over them.
Critics of the amendment state that the wording used to put it to voters obscures its actual impact. Members of the state legislature have defended the proposal, calling the language “straightforward and concise.”
With the election rapidly approaching, deadlines are tight to make a final ruling. 3rd District Judge Dianna Gibson set a preliminary hearing date for Wednesday, September 11th. The hearing will begin at 3:00 p.m.
