Anti-human trafficking organization receives $900,000 grant

SALT LAKE CITY — In the ongoing battle against human trafficking, the Department of Human Trafficking at the Asian Association of Utah has received a substantial federal grant of $900,000.

This is fantastic news for the organization’s mission to combat human trafficking and provide crucial victim services right here in Utah.

Andrea Sherman, who leads the department, stressed the pivotal role of outreach in preventing human trafficking within Utah.

She said that the bulk of this generous grant will directly benefit the clients and victims they serve.

“When a minor is identified,” Sherman said, “They are assigned a case manager right away, that case manager will do a needs assessment to see all the variety of needs.”

This includes a range of vital services such as counseling, travel assistance, and housing support, all aimed at helping survivors of human trafficking rebuild their lives.

In addition to the grant benefiting clients and victims, it will also help bring more case managers on board. This will aid in covering more ground and taking on many more cases to help in the battle against human trafficking.

This grant is a major stride forward in Utah’s efforts to combat human trafficking, fortifying victim services, bolstering outreach endeavors, and beefing up its staff. This undoubtedly strengthens the state’s response to this critical issue.
