Former U.S. Senate staffer Kathryn Dahlin enters 3rd District race

DRAPER, Utah — Another candidate has noted their intention to represent Utah’s 3rd Congressional District. Republican Kathryn Dahlin filed the paperwork on Monday, the last day of the filing period for the 2024 elections.

Dahlin filed to run in the race after Rep. John Curtis, who currently holds the seat, announced he would run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated in 2024 by Sen. Mitt Romney.

A press release said she will “formally launch her campaign later this month.”

Who is Kathryn Dahlin?

According to a press release, Dahlin, a graduate of Brigham Young University, worked as a legislative aide and a “policy advisor” in the U.S. Senate. 

Dahlin’s LinkedIn account states she worked as a legislative assistant to Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, in Washington D.C. between 2009 and 2011. She is also listed as a legislative assistant for Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Oregon, between 2000 and 2004. 

Dahlin’s resume on LinkedIn indicates she was the associate director of external affairs for the 2008 Republican National Convention. Her LinkedIn account also shows she directed Senate lobbying efforts for BSA, The Software Alliance, between 2004 and 2008.

Who is running for Utah’s 3rd District?

Several other Republicans have thrown their hats into the ring to represent Utah’s 3rd Congressional District. The Deseret News reported they are Rod Bird, Jr., Stewart Peay, Case Lawrence, Chris Herrod, Mike Kennedy, John Dougall

Glen Wright, a former member of the Summit County Council, is a Democrat who has also filed to run.
