Utah Senators speak on US-Mexico border crisis

MCALLEN, Texas — Utah’s senators are speaking out on the crisis at the U.S. and Mexico border, and what they say caused it.

Sen. Mike Lee recently visited the border, and while there he posted a video on X (formerly known as Twitter). In the video, he said the problem isn’t funding. It’s the policies border agents have to follow.

Lack of funding isn’t even the biggest problem here.

“These guys are restricted in terms of their ability to apprehend those who are crossing illegally,” Lee said in the video. “They’re given all kinds of rules. It’s so much worse than being told to make bricks without straw.”

Back on Capitol Hill, Sen. Mitt Romney grilled Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Myorkas on Tuesday.

“If that were my record, I would resign in shame,” he said. “Or, I would have fashioned a piece of legislation designed to solve that problem and work like crazy to get it passed. I don’t think you’ve done either one of those things.”

Romney also said the record number of border crossings we’re seeing coincides with the era of the Biden Administration.
