Cedar City earns National IMBA Trail Town designation

SALT LAKE CITY — Mountain bike enthusiasts across Utah may have a new reason to head towards Cedar City after the International Mountain Bicycling Association designated the city as a 2026 IMBA Trail Town.
This new national designation from the IMBA honor communities that exhibit an exceptional commitment to building, maintaining and celebrating trail systems.
Cedar City is one of 28 cities across the United States to receive the inaugural 2026 IMBA Trail Town designation, the only city in Utah. It holds the designation for two years, from 2026 to 2028.
“Receiving the IMBA Trail Town designation recognizes the incredible collaboration between volunteers, local organizations, land managers, and community leaders who have worked for years to build and care for our trails,” said Mac Urie with Iron Trailcraft, an organization dedicated to planning, building and maintaining the mountain bike trail systems of Cedar City and Iron County.
According to Maria Twitchell, Executive Director of Visit Cedar City-Brian Head Visitors Bureau, trail systems are increasingly recognized as important drivers of outdoor recreation economies.
Twitchell said outdoor recreation in the state of Utah generated $9.7 billion in economic activity.
“Our trails are part of Cedar City’s innovative spirit, as they bring people together and invite adventure,” Twitchell said. “This designation is a wonderful recognition of the years of hard work, collaboration, and pride our community has invested in building a world‑class trail experience and showcases how our thriving outdoor recreation scene fuels both our economy and our way of life.”
David Wiens, Executive Director of IMBA, congratulated Cedar City on achieving the designation. “IMBA Trail Towns are leading with trails by demonstrating how trails support thriving, resilient communities. The IMBA Trail Town designation is more than a badge of honor,” he said. “It’s national recognition that a community values trails and the people who ride them.”
