SALT LAKE CITY — A “fishing emergency” has prompted the Division of Wildlife Resources to increase the fishing limit at Crouse Reservoir in Uinta County.

According to Faith Jolley with the DWR, water levels in the reservoir are low, which triggered an emergency change in the Utah Fishing Guidebook.

“(Starting on Tuesday), anglers (will be allowed) to keep up to eight trout of any species,” Jolley said. “Crouse Reservoir is currently experiencing low water levels, and due to senior water rights in the Pot Creek drainage, additional water from the reservoir must be released.”

According to the DWR website, the runoff could cause an even more “deleterious impact” on the fish. DWR Deputy Director Michael Canning said he hopes the change to the fishing guidelines will help to not waste the fish.

“This emergency change will allow the public to harvest more fish from the reservoir so they can be used and not wasted as water levels continue to decline this summer,” Canning said. “Increased harvest will hopefully improve the survival of any remaining fish, as well.”

The DWR said the new fishing rule for Crouse will end on Dec. 31, and that anglers can find rainbow, tiger and brown trout in the reservoir.
