LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah — SR-210 closed at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning for avalanche mitigation testing.
According to a post on X by the Utah Department of Transportation, the road was closed in both directions until shortly after 8 a.m.
Additionally, backcountry terrain in the area was closed at 10 p.m. on Monday ahead of the tests, allowing people time to exit the area.
Interlodge orders in effect
Nearby areas were put under interlodge orders during the avalanche mitigation testing. According to Snowbird, interlodge goes into effect when avalanche danger is perceived to be “extreme.” It requires everyone in the area to stay within buildings.
According to a post on X, the Snowbird Village was in interlodge on Tuesday morning. At around 8 a.m., the resort began allowing straight-line travel, according to a later X post.
The interlodge was later fully lifted.
The resort’s website explained that straight-line travel permits people to move from one building to another. However, it still prohibits parking lot access and highway travel.
In contrast, people must stay within the same building when straight-line travel is not allowed during interlodge. Snowbird’s website said violating interlodge orders can result in a Class B misdemeanor.
Similarly, interlodge was put into effect at 6 a.m. in the Town of Alta. According to a post on X, the restrictions were lifted when SR-210 reopened.
