Cherry Fire begins near Springville

SALT LAKE CITY — The Cherry Fire began east of Springville on Thursday. Authorities said it has caused evacuations and is continuing to grow.
In a Facebook Post, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the fire is in Hobble Creek Canyon in the right fork. The fire was at an estimated 150 acres on Thursday, and authorities said it remained active overnight.
On Friday morning, Utah Fire Info said the fire was at an estimated 70 acres, but officially 0% contained.
By Friday evening, the fire had grown to 651 acres, according to the Great Basin Coordination Center.
The Sheriff’s Office said an evacuation has been issued for residents who live in the right fork of Hobble Creek up to Springville Crossing. The evacuation will be in place until Sunday, Oct. 5, pending fire activity.
Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area.
