Goshen fire grows to approximately 400 acres, was human caused, officials say

UPDATE: The Goshen fire has grown to 408 acrews and is 25% contained as of Wednesday afternoon said an official with Utah Fire Info. After a preliminary investigation, fire officials believe the fire could have been started by target shooters.
They are urging caution when target shooting, considering how dry the conditions are.

SALT LAKE CITY — Several crews were fighting a wildfire in Utah County Tuesday night.
Utah Fire Info estimates the Goshen Canyon Fire is approximately 400 acres and was “expected to decrease around sunset.”

In a post to Facebook, Santaquin City Fire said several agencies responded to the fire.
Sgt. Ray Ormond with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said three homes have been evacuated as a precaution. Karl Hunt with the Department of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands said the goal is to get those residents back into their homes by the end of the night.

According to the Levan Fire Department, the fire started due to target shooting in the area.
Santaquin City Fire is asking the public to not call 911 for this fire.
On Wednesday morning Karl Hunt with Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands said the fire is at approximately 400 acres and 0% contained.
“Crews from the Forest Service, BLM, local fire departments and the state of Utah arrived this morning to start building a containment line and working to a goal of 100% containment. The residence of the three structures that were evacuated last night near the mouth of Goshen Canyon were allowed back into their homes at 10:30 p.m. last night.”
