Semitruck catches fire and ignites grass near Interstate 215

SALT LAKE CITY — A large semitruck caught fire in west Salt Lake City Friday afternoon, drawing several fire crews to the area.

Cpt. Andrew Wilcox with the Salt Lake City Fire Department said the fire started at approximately 3:45 p.m. in the area of 2100 West and Indiana Circle.

Wilcox said the semi ignited the blaze which then spread on grass.

It was not immediately clear if any structures were threatened.

The Salt Lake City Police Department said smoke was drifting across Interstate 215 in the area and causing delays. The department asked drivers to take a detour if possible.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department announced the fire had been contained and crews were beginning to leave the scene just before 4:45 p.m.
