SALT LAKE CITY — Now might be a good time for Utahns to start breaking out their sweaters as meteorologists predict cool temperatures and rain for this week.

KSL meteorologists forecasted highs only in the mid-50s both Monday and Tuesday before temperatures see a gradual incline later in the week. And rain is expected to fall with those temperatures.

Between what fell Sunday, and what’s forecasted Monday and Tuesday, areas of the Wasatch Front could see a half-inch to an inch of rain, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Sam Webber.

“We are… starting to kick off this water year in the right direction,” Webber said.

Webber said the rain would likely be strongest between Salt Lake, Davis and Weber Counties, and that higher elevations are going to see snow with this system.

Meteorologists expect the system to move out on Tuesday. According to Webber it’s, “Going to go out with a bang.”

Despite recent dry years, Webber said this kind of weather is very typical for Utah.

The state just ended one of its strongest water years in history following a record snowpack and strong summer rainfall.

The sweater weather won’t be here to stay just yet. Salt Lake City is looking at a forecasted high of 75 by Sunday.
