SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City registered its hottest overnight low temperature ever recorded on June 14, Friday.

KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said the previous hottest overnight low temperature recorded on this date was 73 degrees set back in 1918.

On Friday morning, temperatures did not get cooler than 78 degrees, shattering the previous record that stood for 106 years.

This comes on the heels of Salt Lake City registering its first 100-degree day of 2024 on Thursday.

Johnson said the reason temperatures struggled to cool down overnight Thursday into Friday is because clouds blanketed the skies of the Wasatch Front. When that happens, it’s harder for the Earth’s atmosphere to cool.

Highs are expected to be in the 90’s in Salt Lake City again on Friday.

After hottest overnight low temperature, relief is in sight

Temperatures are finally expected to start gradually dropping from here on out.

On Saturday, highs are expected to reach the upper-80’s, but Father’s Day might only top out at 83 degrees in Salt Lake City.

Temperatures are expected to keep dropping heading into next week. Tuesday could be as cool as 71 degrees.
