Weekend weather: Smoky sunshine in northern Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — It looks like a beautiful start to the Labor Day Weekend across northern Utah with highs moving toward the low 90s by Monday.
And according to the Utah Division of Air Quality, most counties across the Wasatch Front can expect moderate levels of particulate matter in the air.
They’re rare, but they happen!
The National Weather Service has confirmed that on Thursday, a tornado touched down twice in southern Davis County. Winds whipped up to 110 mph, causing tree and home damage in the Cloverdale neighborhood before the tornado moved into Woods Cross.
Then the twister touched down in the area of Redwood Road and 800 West in North Salt Lake shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The weather associated with that tornado is what caused lightning delays at the University of Utah, Weber State football game at Eccles Stadium on the University of Utah campus.

In Woods Cross the tornado produced winds between 65 and 85 mph, causing damage to the Woods Cross Public Works building as well as a nearby construction site as it increased in intensity.
