CDC alert issued for bagged Simple Truth, Nature’s Basket greens

SALT LAKE CITY — Six American states have reported outbreaks of E. Coli which include several hospitalizations, and now a CDC alert asking you to check your bagged greens.
If you purchased Simple Truth Organic Power Greens and/or Nature’s Basket Organic Power Greens, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would like you to check the “best if used by” dates.
If your bag reads best if used by December 20, 2021, the CDC wants you to throw it away.
Kroger stores sell The Simple Truth Organic brand. In Utah Kroger is represented by Smith’s Grocery Stores.
“Six people ate Simple Truth Organic Power Greens, and one sick person ate Nature’s Basket Organic Power Greens,” the CDC said. An investigation continues to determine if other products may be contaminated with E. coli.
“The actual number of sick people in an outbreak is likely much higher than the number reported,” the CDC said in a statement.
“The outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses. This is because many people recover without medical care and are not tested for E. coli.”
In the CDC alert, consumers are also asked to check the “best if used by” dates on bags of greens that may be in the freezer. If the date reads “best if used by December 20, 2021,” you are asked to throw the greens away.
If a person has been infected with E. Coli, they may experience severe gastric distress including cramps, diarrhea, or vomiting. The symptoms usually begin three to four days after swallowing the bacteria.
