Navajo Department of Health reports 14 new cases of COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The Navajo Department of Health reported 14 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and one recent death Friday.

As of Friday, the total number of deaths was at 1,358. The report also indicated that 29,644 individuals have recovered from COVID-19, and 283,808 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases stands at 31,081.

The state of Utah also reported Friday 655 new cases, Arizona reported 921 cases, and New Mexico reported 125 cases.

“The numbers of COVID-19 cases are rising in the Four Corners states, especially in Arizona and Utah,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez. “If you travel off the Navajo Nation, we strongly urge you to wear a mask in public at all times. The Delta variant is now the dominant strain across the country, and it has been reported here on the Navajo Nation as well. Personal responsibility is the key to staying safe and reducing the spread of the variants. Our health care experts have given us the guidance and resources to protect ourselves, so it’s our responsibility as individuals to adhere to their guidance.”
