The poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows that 26% of Americans overall want to see Biden run again — a slight recovery from the 22% who said that in January. Forty-seven percent of Democrats say they want him to run, also up slightly from only 37% who said that in January. President Biden is expected to formerly announce he will seek reelection next week. SALT LAKE CITY — The 2024 presidential election is still a little more than 18 months away.

Even still, it will be here before we know it. And as such, Inside Sources will bring you the latest developments each Friday as the race draws closer.

Inside Sources host Boyd Matheson begins the conversation by saying, “we’ve often described trying to understand the behavior of someone running for president as trying to smell the color seven.”

Democratic field for 2024 presidential election

Earlier this week, Robert Kennedy, Jr. announced his bid to be the Democratic nominee in the 2024 race.

“My mission over the next 18 months of this campaign and over my, throughout presidency will be to end the corrupt merger of state and corporate power,” Kennedy said to a crowd in Boston.

Kennedy, Jr. has long been known for his environmental work, and was critical of vaccinees during the pandemic.

The problem for Kennedy, Jr., according to Matheson, is there has been a number of individuals from the Kennedy family, who have said they will be supporting President Biden.

All indications are that President Joe Biden will make a formal announcement next Tuesday that he plans to seek reelection.

“He’s been saying he’s made that decision, but hasn’t formally thrown his hat into the ring,” Matheson said.

Additionally, Matheson says Tuesday will mark the fourth anniversary of President Biden’s announcement of his 2020 campaign.

Republican field

Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) has announced he is forming an exploratory committee about a possible run for the White House in 2024.

It is expected the Scott will make a final decision sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Another potential candidate, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, will be in Utah this week to speak at the Utah Republican Convention. DeSantis hasn’t formally announced his candidacy.

Matheson says DeSantis is waiting until the conclusion of the Florida legislative session before making an announcement. The Florida legislative session will conclude in a few weeks.

Inside Sources with Boyd Matheson can be heard weekdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on KSL NewsRadio. Users can find the show on the KSL NewsRadio website and app.
