Groundbreaking dates announced for California and Texas temples

SALT LAKE CITY — The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday groundbreaking dates for temples in California and Texas.

Modesto California Temple

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Modesto California Temple will be on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023. Elder Gary B. Sabin, General Authority Seventy and First Counselor in the North America West Area Presidency, will preside at the ceremony.

The temple was first announced in April 2022 by President Russell M. Nelson. According to a release from the church, the temple will be built on 17.63 acres of land. It will be a single-story structure and will be roughly 30,000 square feet.

The temple will be adjacent to a meetinghouse, which is located at 4300 Dale Road, Modesto, California.

The release states that California has 12 temples. In April, President Nelson announced temples for Bakersfield and San Jose.

Fort Worth Texas Temple

The church will hold the groundbreaking ceremony for the Fort Worth Temple on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023. Elder Jose L. Alonso, General Authority Seventy and First Counselor in the North America Southwest Area Presidency, will preside at the ceremony.

President Nelson first announced the temple in October 2021. The release states that the temple will be constructed on a 9.37-acre site. It will be a single-story structure and will be roughly 30,000 square feet.

The temple will be located north of Southwest Hulen Street and Greenridge Drive in Burleson, Texas.

Attendance at each of the groundbreaking ceremonies is by invitation only.

Bonneville International Corporation, the company that owns KSL NewsRadio, is a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
