If it tastes like KFC chicken, it could be your toothpaste

SALT LAKE CITY — Imagine that your tooth brushing routine included the taste of KFC chicken.

Mouthwatering, right?

KFC and Hismile, an Australian oral-care company, have teamed up to make a toothpaste that tastes like KFC chicken. And that tube of finger-lickin’ goodness comes with an electric toothbrush, too.

At least it did. By one account, Hismile has sold out of the chicken toothpaste and toothbrush combo.

Was the toothpaste story a joke?

The oral care combo appeared on April 1, prompting skepticism that the flavored toothpaste was an April Fool’s Day joke.

Food & Wine reported that the idea started as a joke, but Hismile ran with it anyway

Visit the site and you’ll see that the toothpaste costs $13 for about two ounces in the United States. The matching toothbrush is about $60.

The toothpaste doesn’t have fluoride, which isn’t atypical according to a periodontist with the University of Utah School of Dentistry. 

In fact, Dr. David Okano said you don’t really need toothpaste at all to clean your teeth.

Which may be good news if the only option you have is a toothpaste that tastes like fried chicken.
