SALT LAKE CITY – You’ve waited years for this, and the moment has finally arrived. The Roof — one of Utah’s oldest and most beloved dining institutions — is reopening after an extensive renovation, and it’s making a memorable comeback.

The restaurant began as the rooftop dining room of the Hotel Utah in 1914, a true novelty of its time. Guests enjoyed meals 10 stories above the city in an open-air space, creating special moments that became part of family lore for generations. Over the past century, the venue has transformed under several names — Starlite Gardens, The Sky Room, The Garden and, ultimately, The Roof.

Through every iteration, one thing has remained constant: the way it makes guests feel.

Maybe The Roof has been part of your family tradition for decades, or maybe this reopening will mark your very first visit. Either way, you’re about to understand why it has meant so much to so many.

The grand reopening is here — and here’s why you’ll want to reserve your table as soon as possible.

Dining at The Roof is a tribute to the beauty and character of the Beehive State. The restaurant describes each course as “a love letter from Utah to you,” elevating local flavors and favorite dishes in fresh, memorable ways.

Begin with warm, house-made flatbread, then move on to a perfectly cooked steak, a reimagined take on classic funeral potatoes and a honey-drizzled dessert that captures Utah’s signature sweetness.

And in keeping with long-standing tradition, there’s one thing you won’t find on the menu: alcohol.

A sample of the menu

Expect classic Utah flavors — elevated.

If you loved The Roof before, prepare to be impressed all over again. Without giving away every surprise, here’s a small taste of what you’ll find on the new menu:

  • Utah scones with honey butter
  • Funeral potato bites
  • Bacon–fig flatbread
  • Birria short rib
  • Maple-glazed salmon
  • The Roof Smashburger
  • Beehive Chicken Sandwich
  • Crème brûlée
  • Toffee cake with house-made ice cream

Families are welcome, too — the menu includes several kid-friendly favorites so everyone can enjoy the experience.

Coming soon: The Chef’s Table

The Roof’s commitment to offering something fresh, bold and unforgettable doesn’t stop with the main dining room. Soon, guests will be able to reserve an intimate private experience known as The Chef’s Table — a multi-course tasting created and presented by The Roof’s acclaimed culinary team.

Unlike the standard menu, each dish at The Chef’s Table is crafted exclusively for that evening and introduced personally by the chefs. No two nights will be the same, ensuring a distinctive, immersive experience every time you visit.

More than just good food

After years of extensive renovations, this is far from “your grandmother’s Roof restaurant,” as charming as that may have been. Every detail has been updated and modernized to create an intimate space designed for exceptional dining.

But it’s not just the food that draws guests — it’s the experience. Savor exquisite cuisine, enjoy attentive service and take in stunning city views alongside the people who matter most. Whether it’s a special celebration, a date night, or a casual gathering, The Roof is poised to become your go-to destination for life’s most memorable meals.

Reviews are pouring in

People have already started to enjoy this bold, reimagined restaurant and the latest Google reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Across the board, people are praising the food, service and atmosphere.

“The food is worth the price! The meat is cooked so tender that it just melts in your mouth,” one reviewer wrote.

“We went to The Roof after it reopened following extensive renovations. The restaurant is all new, in looks, and menu. It feels very upscale and has beautiful views with floor to ceiling windows,” another wrote. “We will be back, and I would recommend [it] for a nice meal!”

Another satisfied customer added that “the toffee cake is where heaven meets earth.”

Overall, visitors are delighted with their experiences and excited by the restaurant’s fresh updates.

Elevate your next meal

True to its name, The Roof is at the top — both literally and figuratively. Ten floors above Salt Lake City, it offers a culinary experience paired with unforgettable views of the city and surrounding mountains. The menu draws inspiration from local favorites, showcasing flavors that Utahns know and love, reimagined in fresh, elevated ways.

For your next date night, celebration, business lunch, or casual gathering, The Roof takes your meal to the next — or rather, the top — level. Come see what’s new and reserve your table today.

The Roof is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, for lunch and dinner.
