BYU hosts Boise State in homecoming at LaVell Edwards Stadium

PROVO, Utah — The 10th-ranked BYU Cougars will put their perfect season on the line Saturday afternoon with a homecoming game against Boise State.

Kickoff at LaVell Edwards Stadium is set for 1:30 p.m. Pregame coverage on KSL NewsRadio 1160 AM and 102.7 FM begins at 9 a.m. You can listen to all of the BYU coverage right here.
The Cougars (5-0) are coming off a 34-20 win over Utah State on Oct. 1. Boise State (2-3) is coming off a 41-31 loss to Nevada last weekend. All three of the Broncos’ losses have been by a combined 16 points.
Saturday’s contest is the 12th time the two teams have played. Boise State holds a 7-4 lead in the series. However, BYU was won the last two contests, including a 51-17 win last season in Boise.
“They’re a really tough opponent, I know we’re gonna get their best shot,” BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said during last Monday’s media availability. “We’re looking forward to the matchup, but our entire focus is on us improving.”
Who starts at quarterback on homecoming?
One big question leading into Saturday afternoon’s contest – who will start at quarterback for BYU?
Redshirt sophomore Baylor Romney was hurt in the final seconds of the first half in last week’s game at Utah State. Freshman quarterback Jacob Conover played the second half of the game in Logan.
Redshirt sophomore Jaren Hall began the season as the starter, but is still recovery from an injury he suffered late in a win over Arizona State on Sept. 18.
Whoever starts Saturday will have the support of his teammates.
“I have faith in any one of those quarterbacks,” BYU tight end Isaac Rex said during Monday’s press conference. “Whichever one’s healthy, I know they’re gonna play great and we’ve got their backs. We’ll be ready to help them.”
Ground game
BYU running back Tyler Allgeier rushed for 218 yards in the win over the Aggies last week. In five games this season, Allgeier, a redshirt sophomore, is averaging 112.8 yards per game.
He could have another big game Saturday. The Boise State defense is allowing opponents to rush for 191 yards in five games so far this season.
