“Austin is one of those teachers that inspires students to be future teachers. He is brilliant and has a passion for making chemistry accessible to everyone. He has been teaching high school science for over 15 years. During that time he has recieved a masters degree, teaches science and computer programing at BYU, all while expanding his reach at Brighton High through AP programs and the Chess Club. Austin truly believes in people and celebrates each one of his students achievements with them. I truly believe he is helping create future world changers by pouring into them the ability to believe, challenge, and reach their own potentials. It’s commonly said, those who can’t do, teach. Austin is living proof that is so false. He could have been a NASA Engineer, a biotech scientist, literally anything—but he chose the noblest yet humble path, of teacher. Often, our culture doesn’t truly understand the sacrifice, long unpaid nights, and mantle that is carried by our teachers. I see the sacrifices his family and him have made for him to follow his passion instead of the highest compensation. He so deserves every spotlight that can be shown on his quiet acts in the classroom that echo forever in his students lives.”
