“Camille Grimshaw is the kind of teacher who changes the way people see themselves. I have known her for seven years as both my mentor and friend, and I can honestly say I would not be the artist I am today without her guidance.
When I was preparing my portfolio for BYU’s animation program, Camille met with me every week to help strengthen my figure drawing skills. She challenged me to try new techniques, introduced me to new artistic tools, and encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone. What made her teaching so effective wasn’t just her expertise, but the way she gave feedback. Her critiques were always thoughtful, encouraging, and constructive, giving me the confidence to keep improving instead of feeling discouraged.
That same approach is something I’ve watched her share with countless students and artists. Camille has an incredible ability to recognize when someone is struggling and knows exactly how to encourage them. One of her favorite questions is, “Do you like it?” Rather than teaching students to create what others expect, she helps them discover what excites and inspires them. She empowers people to develop their own artistic voice while giving them the technical skills to succeed.
Camille also leads by example. She is constantly learning, experimenting with new mediums, and expanding her own artistic abilities. Her curiosity and passion for lifelong learning inspire those around her to continue growing as well.
Beyond the classroom, Camille has made an extraordinary impact on Utah’s art community. She founded one of the state’s largest chalk art festivals and has helped numerous organizations build successful community art events. She generously shares her knowledge, mentors fellow artists, and dedicates countless hours to making art more accessible. Not for recognition or profit, but because she genuinely believes art has the power to bring people together.
Camille doesn’t simply teach art; she builds confidence, encourages creativity, and creates opportunities for others to succeed. Her influence extends far beyond the students she teaches, strengthening the entire artistic community. She is an exceptional educator who truly deserves to be recognized for the lasting impact she makes on the lives of those around her.”
