“Chelsea works as an English Language Development teacher and coordinator at Alta High. She has been instrumental in creating a culture of inclusion and ambition for students who are English Language Learners (ELLs). At Alta High she oversees efforts to help teachers learn how to instruct ELLs. She creates connections with families who are new to the American school system and makes them feel comfortable by teaching them how to navigate school. She oversees her students’ graduation requirements by offering academic advising and promoting her ELL students to pursue Advanced Placement, Concurrent enrollment, and complete pathway requirements for Career and Technical Education certifications. This year she organized the efforts for student to complete the WIDA Test (which is a measurement of proficiency and growth in English language acquisition). Chelsea ensured that every student who is an ELL at Alta High School had opportunity and guidance to take the WIDA test. To have 100% participation on this exam is a huge feat that few understand. Kids come to school because of her and they THRIVE because of her!”
