“I would like to nominate Chuck Murillo as Teacher of the Month. A proud alumnus of Granger High, Chuck graduated in 1983 and was guided by his counselor to explore welding, which led to an inspiring career. His passion for welding led him to serve in the Navy, where he worked on ships around the world.
After his service, Chuck transitioned to a welding supply store, where a CTE coordinator recognized his potential as a teacher. Since 2015, he has dedicated himself to teaching welding at Granger High, making a lasting impact on countless students. His welding shop is a welcoming space, nurturing the skills and confidence of his students, including encouraging young women to pursue welding careers.
Chuck’s commitment extends beyond the classroom; he actively collaborates with industry partners, post-secondary institutions, secondary institutions and the national CTSO program of SkillsUSA, which provides students with real-world connections and opportunities. Generations of siblings have been encouraged to take his class because of the genuine care he shows for each student. Many former students still look up to Mr. Murillo and frequently reach out to him, proudly sharing their welding careers and accomplishments.
His dedication is evident as he often teaches all eight periods without having a consultation period, and he stays late to provide extra help. Choosing the alternative route to licensure (ARL) has proven to be a transformative decision for Chuck, allowing him to focus on empowering students and fostering their growth.
For these reasons and more, Chuck Murillo deserves to be recognized as Teacher of the Month. His passion, commitment, and ability to inspire are truly commendable.”
