“Dirk Menzel is an amazing teacher and fantastic person who is well liked by students, teachers, administration, parents, and community. His friendly, welcoming personality is evident to all he comes in contact with, but he is especially popular with students. He is a woodworking teacher who also enjoys teaching computer science, and his popularity with students is well known and reflected in him teaching four class periods on A Days and B Days (block schedule) each semester. His talent and skill in the classroom and woodshop are amazing, and the students clamor to his classes which include introductory, intermediate, and advanced woodworking classes. Dirk had taught a Computer Science Principles course along with his woodworking classes two years ago, but the demand for his woodworking classes has forced the administration to relieve him of teaching that class, a class he also loved teaching. As a career CTE educator of 36 years myself, I wish there was a replication machine that I could replicate Dirk because his love of teaching and desire to help young men and women is infectious. Dirk is a prime example of a deserving educator for this recognition.”
