Erin Summerill, Pleasant Grove High School

“I am nominating Erin Summerill (my mother in law), who is an English teacher at Pleasant Grove High School, because of her incredible dedication and passion for her students. She works extremely hard to connect with each of them individually and meet their unique needs. Many of her students are not fluent or literate in English, so she has taken it upon herself to start learning Spanish in order to communicate more effectively and ensure they don’t fall behind.

She is also deeply committed to growing as an educator. She has returned to school multiple times to earn advanced degrees, most recently completing a master’s in Writing and Rhetoric to better serve and inspire her students.

In the classroom, she keeps her students engaged through thought-provoking questions and interactive games. Beyond teaching, she is a huge supporter of school spirit — dressing up for events and volunteering at everything from dances to sports games to make sure students feel supported and connected.

Outside of work, she loves Disney and enjoys traveling to Disneyland with her kids as well as exploring the world whenever possible. Her dedication to her students, her school, and her own family is truly inspiring, and that’s why I believe she deserves this recognition.”
