“It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend Jana Francom for Teacher Feature. As a colleague, I have witnessed firsthand her unwavering dedication to our students, her innovative spirit, and her exceptional ability to inspire and lead.
One of the most impactful contributions Jana has made to our school is her organization and leadership of The Amazing Shake competition. This event, originally developed by the Ron Clark Academy, is far more than a school activity, it is a transformative experience for our students. Through Jana’s vision and tireless coordination, The Amazing Shake has become a highlight of year, offering all students the rare opportunity to learn and practice real-world professional skills in an engaging, high-energy format.
Jana sends all staff members weekly emails along with lesson suggestions on how to teach important life skills such as respectful communication, public speaking, professionalism, and confidence—all within a framework that challenges them to think quickly, present themselves with poise, and interact with adults in meaningful, mature ways. Watching our elementary students thrive in this environment is a direct reflection of Jana’s ability to design educational experiences that are both rigorous and incredibly rewarding.
Jana has also successfully involved our broader community, inviting local business leaders, government officials (including West Point’s mayor and 1st Lady Abby Cox) to participate as judges and mentors. This not only enriches the experience for our students but also builds meaningful bridges between the school and the community—a testament to her belief in the power of collaboration and authentic learning.
What sets Jana apart is her commitment to excellence and her deep belief in the potential of every student. She doesn’t just organize events—she creates opportunities that change lives. The confidence, discipline, and professionalism our students develop through The Amazing Shake are skills they will carry with them long after they leave our classrooms. She spends countless hours and money from her own pocket to put on this extremely worthwhile event. The students look forward to this event every year.
For these reasons and many more, I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition than Jana Francom. She is a leader, a mentor, and a true educator in every sense of the word. She is a huge asset to our Lakeside Elementary community!”
