“Jessica began her teaching career in the 2019/2020 school year. For any first-year teacher, this would have been one that would have made someone run away from education fast. The Covid shutdown was very hard, at the time Jessica was teaching at a Title 1 school with many students who did not speak English as a first language. She worried not only about their academic loss but for their physical well-being while they were not in school. She set up Zoom meetings and then also made numerous home visits to deliver food and snacks and individual support. She has since gotten her Engish as a Second Language Endorsement and is working on her Master’s to improve her teaching. She LOVES students. She comes home each night concerned about each of her kids and how to better reach them. She alters her teaching to adapt to the students and her students work hard for her because they know that she cares about them. Jessica is fun-loving and silly. The staff appreciates Jessica’s sense of humor and her desire to make everyone feel important. She has served at Columbia Elementary and Foothills Elementary as the wellness rep for the teachers because the administration can see that her smile and energy can lift the spirits of the entire staff. For the last five years, Jessica has worked very hard to help everyone, whether it be a student, teacher, administrator, or staff member. She is the epitome of a resilient teacher!”
