“For 27 years, Julie Henderson has dedicated her life to shaping young minds as a 6th-grade Gifted and Talented (GT) teacher. Her love for teaching is evident in every lesson she designs, every challenge she presents, and every student she inspires. She is not just an educator—she is a mentor, an innovator, and a relentless advocate for student success.
Julie goes above and beyond in her classroom, spending countless hours crafting engaging and dynamic learning experiences. Her lessons are far from ordinary; they are immersive, thought-provoking, and unforgettable. One of her annual traditions is producing a Shakespearean festival for her school, bringing the beauty of classic literature to life for her students as they produce a Shakespearean Play. Through this experience, her students develop confidence, teamwork, and an appreciation for the arts.
She started and ran the Science Fair for her school for well over two decades, wrangling projects, mentoring students, and finding judges for over 200 projects each year. Students learn to observe and make sense of the world. They learn scientific method, analyzing data, and critical thinking.
A National Board Certified teacher in mathematics, Julie has been instrumental in developing curricula and mentoring fellow educators. Her expertise and willingness to support others have made a lasting impact on her school community. She continuously finds creative ways to make learning exciting—whether it’s hosting a murder mystery party to investigate the fall of the Roman Empire or challenging students to strategize and compete in an investment simulation to see who can turn virtual money into the most profit.
Julie’s commitment to her students extends far beyond the classroom. She is deeply invested in their growth, both academically and personally. She fosters an environment where curiosity thrives, problem-solving is celebrated, and learning is an adventure. The amount of time, effort, and care she pours into her students is truly remarkable.
Julie Henderson is not just a teacher; she is a force of inspiration. Her dedication, creativity, and unwavering belief in her students make her an extraordinary educator. She is more than deserving of this recognition, as she continues to shape the future—one brilliant young mind at a time.”
