“I would love to nominate Kathy Lewis for the Teacher Tribute Wall by KSL NewsRadio and Cyprus Credit Union.

Mrs. Lewis is the Special Education teacher at Snow Horse Elementary. It’s hard for me to even know where to begin when describing the impact she has had on my son.

One of the things that truly sets Mrs. Lewis apart is her remarkable ability to dig deeper. She believes that behavior is a form of communication and this understanding guides her approach to teaching. Mrs. Lewis possesses the beautiful ability to look beyond surface-level behaviors, striving to truly understand each child in her care. There have been situations last school year where on the surface, my son’s behaviors presented as one thing, but Mrs. Lewis looks deeper to better understand what is happening, thus truly understanding what my son is trying to communicate and what his needs are. This only happens with Mrs. Lewis getting curious when behaviors arise instead of only seeing a negative behavior. She consistently goes the extra mile to explore the unique needs of each student, ensuring that they receive the support and guidance they require to thrive. As a parent, I feel incredibly fortunate to have Mrs. Lewis as part of my village in raising my special needs son. Her commitment, compassion, and genuine interest in each child’s well-being make her an extraordinary educator.

My son is truly blessed to have Mrs. Lewis as his teacher. She provides him with the skills to advocate for himself. She provides a safe place for him to land when his feelings are too big. Her unwavering dedication and genuine care have made a profound difference in not only his academic progress, but his life and for that, we are immensely grateful.

Thank you, Mrs. Lewis, for your extraordinary commitment to your students and for being an inspiration to us all. You are a true gem in the world of education, and we are honored to have you in our lives.”
