Kayla Williams, Cottonwood Elementary

“In every job that must be done there is an element of fun.” Mrs Williams is a modern day Mary Poppins. In her class students have lots of work to get done, but she makes it fun while doing it! She works hard to create a safe and engaging learning environment. She makes the learning process immersive with different themes in her classroom. Around Halloween she created a “Scare Floor” from the movie Monsters Inc and gave all of her students hard hats and badges. When learning contractions she gave them all surgical gowns and gloves, turning her classroom into a surgical center. Her students performed “surgery” on words and stitched them back together into contractions using apostrophe “band-aids.”
Mrs Williams truly cares about each and every student as an individual. She works to challenge each one so they can make growth and progress at their own rate. Most importantly, Mrs Williams makes sure that each of her students know that they are cared about and loved. She gives her cell phone number out to parents and tells them to text her if their child is having a hard day and needs some extra care and attention at school. She truly goes above and beyond to make sure each student has a positive learning experience while making sure each one progresses as they need.”
