“Mrs. Albert is one of the neatest people I’ve ever met! From day one in Mrs. Albert’s Kindergarten class, I noticed something special about her. As the kids lined up for school on the first day, Mrs. Albert came out a few minutes early and greeted each student. As I’ve watched her do this every day at the drop off, I’ve noticed that she always says their name and that she’s happy to see them. She has a little sign where they get to pick whether they want a “high five, hug, or touch elbows” as she greets them. You can see every single kid give a smile when they see that it’s his/her turn. When my son gets out of class, she is always on bus duty and wears a fun “crab hat” so that students know exactly where she is. As she helps the kiddos get on the bus, she says hi to several other students that she’s had in the past, but also to kids in the other kindergarten classes as well. I asked her one day, “How do you know every single kid in this school?” and she said, “Oh, it’s just kind of my thing! Not a big deal!” That is so cool to me, but wait, there’s more! My son comes home with stickers, stamped papers, cool art projects, and stories from being in the “playroom.” She really goes out of her day to make the time special for these kindergarteners. My son came home one day saying that he got to pick toys from her treasure box because he tucked in somebody’s chair.
The most touching story was one that happened a few months ago. One of the days I dropped my son off, she just went through the line as usual, and I didn’t think anything of it. However, when I saw her return to the front of the line, she was carrying in her arms one of her kindergarten students that was having a rough morning and was crying. Everyone was looking at their sad classmate, but I looked back at the parent. It was a dad, and you could see that he was having a hard time too. He was holding back the tears too, but Mrs. Albert was there.
I know there are so many great teachers out there, but this one is one of a kind. Trust me, I’m a teacher. 🙂 This is my 9th year teaching at a high school, and I’ve enjoyed my time, but I was thinking about quitting–until my son was in Mrs. Albert’s class. Her passion for educating and loving these kids, and seeing what she is doing in her classroom changed my whole perspective on teaching. She made me want to be better at making sure my students know that I care about them. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. So, why pick her? Because she’s an incredible teacher! And her example is influencing other teachers like me–and she doesn’t even know it. :)”
