“Mrs. Alvarado is an incredible kindergarten dual-immersion teacher. Her students feel safe, supported, and genuinely cared for in her classroom. She has helped my daughter feel more confident about reading and supports her when she struggles. As a result, my daughter now reads very well and has improved greatly in sounding out words when she gets stuck. Because of Mrs. Alvarado’s high expectations and her excellent teaching, my daughter has greatly improved in both reading and math, with her reading now above grade level.
Mrs. Alvarado goes out of her way to create strong relationships with her students and their families. Her students are always excited to talk about how great she is and what they are learning in class. Our family also feels included in what is happening at school, as she is consistent and thoughtful in her communication. At carpool, she often comes up to our car to share that our daughter had a great day and let us know how she is doing. She will communicate any concerns she may have observed, along with helpful advice on how we can support at home.
She takes the time to notice the small things about each student. If a child is struggling, needs extra support, or simply needs a check-in, she responds quickly and intentionally. She isn’t afraid to offer comfort and reassurance when needed. One day, while I was volunteering in the classroom, my daughter became upset when it was time for me to leave. Mrs. Alvarado came over, sat beside her, comforting her, and stayed with her until she felt better.
My daughter also told me that when a student is absent, Mrs. Alvarado takes time for the class to wish their friend well by placing their hands on their hearts and singing a “Wish You Well” song. She truly has a heart of gold and is teaching these children how to be kind, loving individuals who understand they are part of a family at school.
We are very grateful for both of our daughter’s dual immersion teachers, as they are outstanding. We also very much appreciate the great progress our daughter has made with Mrs. Alvarado, and wanted to nominate her to be recognized for the difference she is making in the lives of so many students.”
