Nathan Jacobsen, Bonneville Elementary

“Mr. Jacobsen makes learning fun! He finds creative ways to engage the students in learning so they feel more like they are playing instead of going to school. For example, to learn about engineering, the kids are building haunted houses (studying what makes it strong, structurally sound, etc.) To learn vocabulary they read from a book together and discuss how the words are used in sentences that help the students understand the book better. Also, he has motivational posters all over his wall. My favorite one is the “Power of Yet”. The students are taught that they can’t do something YET, not that they can’t do it. The don’t know something YET, not that they don’t know it. I have never seen my son so excited to go to school and learn new things. He comes home every day bragging about everything that they did. Having struggled with my son not liking school and avoiding it whenever possible, this is such a refreshing change!!! I highly recommend Mr. Jacobsen for recognition for the good work he is doing in the 5th grade at Bonneville Elementary.”
