Animation of an award for the teacher feature special by KSL...

Hello, I am Abby Knighton. I am very excited to nominate my amazing teacher Mrs. Johnson for Teacher Feature. I am a Junior at Layton High School. I have had Mrs. Johnson for Child Development, Early Childhood Education, and Adult Roles and Financial Literacy. Being in her class is the highlight of my day; not friends, not lunch, but an actual class. Everyday when the bell rings, she is standing outside her classroom holding the door for us with a smile on her face asking you how you are and giving you a special item that corresponds with our lesson and activity for the day. Being in High School our classes are 1 1/2 hours long. In Mrs. Johnson’s class I never look at the clock like I do in most of my other classes, because we are always doing fun busy work, activities that go with the lesson and learning exciting, useful information.

I have never had a teacher that I have loved, trusted, and valued so much in all my schooling. I know that Mrs. Johnson cares about and loves what she teaches and I know for a fact that she cares for her students. Every time I have her class I learn something new and useful that I can use to better myself, to become the person I want to be. She teaches four subjects including Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Adult Roles and Financial Literacy and Interior Design. As you can imagine there is plenty of lesson planning involved in all of those classes. She spends so much time contemplating and worrying about how we will receive it and that we will enjoy learning the lesson.

No one is ever not involved in her class. She pays attention to every single person and their ideas and input so that we all feel important and useful. We are not allowed to use the word “can’t” in her class. She tells us that there is nothing we “can’t” do and that that word is the passage for failure. If you say you “can’t” do something, you will believe it and then you’re right, you won’t be able to do it. Mrs. Johnson has the most happy, positive, outgoing nature and I have never seen her get angry with us. She has taught us that there is no need to ever get angry because a problem can always be solved calmly and constructively.

I hope with all my heart that you will pick Mrs. Johnson for Teacher Feature. If anybody is over qualified, it is her. She deserves the recognition that this honor would give her. I would be as happy as can be if she won and I’m sure her classes would be incredibly happy for her as well. I cannot reiterate enough that she is an amazing lady and I think she would be able to realize how influential she is with this well deserved nomination.

My name is Ali Hancock. I am Abby’s mom. Abby had Mr. Johnson last year and again this year. I have never heard Abby speak so highly of another person as she does Mrs. Johnson. I am very grateful that Abby has a teacher who treats the students with love and respect and is excited to teach. Abby is excited to go to school on the days that she has classes with Mrs. Johnson. She is eager to learn and to participate. When Abby comes home from school she is eager to share what she has learned in class. We need more teachers like Mrs. Johnson who are so excited and committed to the job of teaching and take seriously the attitude of role modeling for our students.

We want to hear from you.
