“I am in absolute awe of Mrs. Utley and the way she went out of her way to serve all of her students this year. Mrs. Utley teaches in a district that returned to in person instruction this fall, so she already had a full time job to worry about. But in order to serve the at home learners and the students they knew would inevitably be placed in quarantine, the first grade teachers of Monroe elementary took the time to create their own website that contained everything and anything a student would need to complete their classes. It included schedules, text books, resource packets, instructional videos, and more. This was a huge undertaking that required hours of unpaid time in addition to their regular teaching and they did an amazing job. My daughter has thrived following their carefully thought out curriculum. In addition to the website Mrs. Utley also welcomed my daughter (an at home learner) to all of the class parties and always helped me to feel at ease with my choice to keep my child home this year. First grade is such a pivotal time for young readers and thanks to the efforts of this wonderful teacher my daughter has blossomed in that area. I am eternally grateful for all of the extra work she put in and for all of the help she has given me and my child personally.”
