“I don’t know where to even start. Whitney is amazing. She is the most devoted, caring and loving teachers I have ever met and has made a positive impact in so many students lives. Whitney has been a special education teacher at Timpview High School for years, and her absolute commitment to each student is astounding. On top of teaching those students, she’s deeply devoted to the Timpview community, including coaching sports teams within the school and holding a testing center in her classroom after school to help other general education teachers. She is everyone’s friends and cares about each person individually, even those not in her class.
My daughter has been in Whitney’s class for 2 years, and throughout that time my daughter has faced significant challenges personally. Whitney has gone above and beyond her job as a teacher, she has cared wholeheartedly about my daughter, being mindful of her good and bad days, as well as checking in with our family to see if there is anything she can do to help us too. When our daughter misses school, Whitney always checks in to make sure she is ok. She cares deeply above their well being too.
Whitney offers her students opportunities to improve their life skills and participate in classes and experiences they might enjoy. She really focuses on ways to help each one of her students succeed on whatever level of learning they are at. She loves each student very much. Even the most challenging students find joy in the classroom because she shows them love and patience and a listening ear. On top of her own students, she also gets to genuinely know the students who are peer tutors in her class, asks them questions about their life, plans, etc., encouraging them along their journey too. She makes long and lasting impacts on every student she meets.
Whitney is an exceptional teacher and truly is an asset to the Timpview community and special education field. Those are just a few things, but I truly could go on and on about what an amazing teacher Whitney Kauhane is.”
