5600 South project delays easing, I-15 project may be completed sooner than expected

ROY, Utah — There’s some good news for drivers who’ve been getting stuck in traffic delays around 5600 South.

By the start of January, UDOT spokesperson Mitch Shaw expects 1900 West between 2400 North in Sunset and 5600 South in Roy to be fully open again.

The road is normally two lanes in each direction. UDOT reduced it to one in each direction for several weeks. This is causing serious headaches for drivers using one of the best alternates to I-15 in the area.

“We recognize that this project is very impactful…we have seen a lot of congestion and a lot of delays,” Shaw said.

The $238 million project includes building a new I-15 interchange and widening 5600 South for a stretch. It is expected to be completed by fall, 2026.

However, Shaw said it’s looking like they could have construction on I-15 itself cleared some time in 2025 — roughly a year sooner.

Shaw said the headache now will be worth it in the long run.

“[It’s] a really big, impactful project, but when all is said and done, it’s going to be a really great improvement,” Shaw said.

Shaw encouraged drivers to sign up for email updates to get the latest information on the project website.
