SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — On Friday night, all east and west traffic on 9800 South at Bangerter is going to shut down and will not reopen for nearly a year.
The Utah Department of Transportation plans to take out the stoplight and turn it into another freeway-style interchange.
UDOT Spokesperson John Gleason said when completed, 9800 South will go over Bangerter, hopefully taking away the choke point by making both roads non-stop
“There is that short-term inconvenience, and it can be a real hassle if you live [or] a work around construction, but that long-term payoff is going to make it worth it,” he said. “You’re not only improving the time that people can get to where they’re going, improving that efficiency. You’re also improving safety because those stoplights are conflict points.”
During the closure, Gleason said your best alternates are going to be 10600 South and 9000 South.
UDOT expects to have this and their other interchange projects on Bangerter done by November of next year.
Similar projects are happening on 13400 South, 4700 South and 2700 West.
