Fourth of July traffic: What to watch out for

SALT LAKE CITY — Fourth of July traffic can be a pain, but experts say that there won’t be too many traffic delays this year.

Utah Department of Transportation John Gleason told Derek Brown and Greg Skordas where to expect delays this weekend on Dave & Dujanovic, “It’s definitely one of [the busiest travel times of the year along with] Memorial Day and Labor Day,” making Fourth of July traffic something that drivers need to look out for.

But what about this year? “We’re a bit fortunate, I think with where the holiday falls on a Tuesday… That means is that traffic is really spread out throughout the period of four to five days,” Gleason said

 

Possible Fourth of July traffic delays

According to UDOT, drivers shouldn’t anticipate many delays this Fourth of July weekend.

Drivers could see delays Friday evening on northbound I-15 in Salt Lake and Davis Counties, experiencing a possible 10-minute delay.

Travelers heading to St. George or Las Vegas may experience delays near Juab County on I-15 southbound near Nephi. 

Construction

To help Fourth of July traffic flow smoothly, construction crews will take a break from most of the major road projects. However, US-40 eastbound, near Heber City which will be down to one lane.

Crews will return to most road projects on Wednesday, July 5.

All lanes will be open on I-15 near Nephi until construction starts on Wednesday, traffic will be down to one lane in both directions when UDOT crews start repairing pavement.
