GREEN RIVER, Wyoming — A highway tunnel on Interstate 80 in Wyoming is being worked on after a fatal crash on Friday caused damage to the tunnel.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation said in a Facebook post on Saturday that the westbound Green River Tunnel was the one affected by the crash.
According to WYDOT, the crash involved passenger and commercial vehicles located both in the middle and western parts of the tunnel, which is located at mile marker 90.2 on the interstate.
The number of fatalities caused by the crash is not known at this time, according to the Facebook post.
According to WYDOT, the bridge’s structure is holding and is expected to carry traffic after the scene is cleared.
“Initial investigations show no sign of collapse in the westbound tunnel,” WYDOT Director Darin Westby said. “I continue to keep those involved in the crash and the first responders on scene in my thoughts and prayers.”
According to WYDOT, electrical equipment and lighting fell from the ceiling and there is soot on the walls of the tunnel.

Currently, traffic is being routed around the crash as responders work on clearing the scene.
“First responders bravely worked through the night to fight the fire in the tunnel, and we could not be more appreciative of their teamwork and support,” Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Col. Karl Germain said in the Facebook post.
The WHP Crash Investigation Team is also currently on scene, according to WYDOT.
