SALT LAKE CITY —Interstate 15 in Davis County is closing every night this week as crews continue working on a massive project to create a new interchange at Shepherd Lane.
The Utah Department of Transportation is closing both directions of I-15 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The closure will affect I-15 from 200 North to Park Lane.

What’s behind the I-15 closure?
UDOT is closing the freeway to place massive beams on a new interchange at Shepherd Lane.

“These are big, massive pieces of steel. So, for safety reasons, it would just be impossible to do it while the freeway is open,” said Mitch Shaw with UDOT.
Shaw said that when complete, the bridge will provide better access between the residential east side and the commercial west side of Davis County.
“With these new bridges and underpasses that we’re building, it’ll provide a better connection where people can walk, where they can bike,” Shaw said. “They can do something more than just get in their cars to go between the east and west side of Farmington.”
How long will the closures last?
Shaw said they know it’s painful to close the freeway for construction, but they hope to finish installing the gigantic beams this week, barring any bad weather.
“That might have an impact, but we’re crossing our fingers and hoping that doesn’t happen,” he said.
If things go according to plan, Friday will be the last closure. The closure on Friday lasts from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m., according to UDOT.
The rest of the project will be scheduled later, but could be finished by late May.
