SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist was killed on Thursday after crashing into a car on U.S. Route 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon.

According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 7 p.m.

A Pontiac Bonneville was turning onto US-6 from U.S. Route 89 when it “failed to see” a Harley Davidson approaching, the DPS said in a news release.

“As the Pontiac was turning, the motorcycle struck the side of Bonneville,” the DPS wrote.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and down an embankment. He died at the scene.

The DPS said the motorcyclist was a 40-year-old man from Helper.

The crash caused two lane closures Thursday night.

Officials are continuing to investigate.
