Officer injured after driver fled on Bangerter, hit another car and ran, police say

WEST VALLEY CITY – An officer and one other person were injured during a police pursuit on Bangerter Highway Monday, after a driver allegedly ran a red light and refused to stop.
According to Lt. Cam Roden, at around 11 a.m., a West Valley City officer attempted to pull a driver over after they were seen running a red light while headed northbound on Bangerter near 3500 South.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the car instead turned around at 3100 South and headed south on Bangerter.
The driver ran another red light and hit another vehicle on 3500 South, according to police.
“The suspect then fled on foot. Officers pursued and were able to catch the suspect. One officer suffered an injury during that process. It is not life-threatening,” said Roxeanne Vainuku, public information officer with West Valley City police.
Vainuku said the driver of the car that was hit and the officer both had minor injuries. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation prior to being booked into jail.
Southbound lanes of Bangerter were closed for approximately an hour.
